This Carmiol’s Tanager was one of a large flock that we encountered while walking through the rain forest in Costa Rica. They were quite active and noisy. I’m not sure if this species has been officially split from Olive Tanager or not. On my first trips to Costa Rica this bird was known as Olive Tanager but not I see it listed as Carmiol’s Tanager on most of the Costa Rica check lists. Whatever it’s name is, it’s fun to see them as they sure seem to have a lot of energy.
We will be doing this trip again next spring, if you think you might be interested more information is available here: www.texastargetbirds.com/group-photo-trips/2018-costa-ric...
