One evening during our Michigan trip last month we heard several American Woodcocks calling in a field near our hotel. After we dropped off the members of our group that were tired the rest of us headed back out to see if we could get a look at these odd birds. To our delight they were still active when we arrived and we had 20 or so minutes of fun watching them fly around in the dark making all sorts of strange sounds. On one occasion we were fortunate enough to have one land nearby for a photo.
