We started out the second day of our Costa Rica trip this month with this Bare-throated Tiger-Heron and wow it was a nice way to start the day. We had seen it the day before as we were headed out and didn’t really have time to get great photos. The next morning we were ready. We walked out to the pond and there he was but not in such a great position for photos. Before long he took off and flew right over our heads into some nearby trees and started calling with his neck stretched out as you see here. The reason became obvious a few seconds later when a second one started calling back to him in the tree. We were entertained by their back and forth for the next several minutes.
