Yesterday I had the honor of taking an 8 year old beginning birder out to Brazoria NWR for some bird photography. Definitely the biggest hit was the raptors at the refuge which were abundant. I think this female Merlin caused even more excitement than the Peregrine Falcon that we saw a few minutes later. She was very accommodating and even gave us a good stare. There is something special about seeing one of these majestic birds out in its element. Hopefully my young friend is now hooked for life!
