Turkey Vulture

Texas

Cathartes aura

I had the pleasure of showing a guest around Galveston County today and while we did have lots of nice birds and photo opps I was most excited to check out this photo of a Turkey Vulture when I got home. The bird had just finished eating a dead rat and was stretching its wings. I thought it came out well even if the bird has a face only a mother could love.

This is a fine close up of an important member of nature's sanitation squad! Very nice detail, and the wingspan makes for a very interesting picture. I think the vulture is a fascinating bird.
