Setophaga pensylvanica
Chestnut-sided Warbler is a species that I think we saw every single day of our Costa Rica trip this month, or at least it seemed that way. All of the birds we saw looked more or less like this one as opposed to the bold colors and markings of the adult males that we typically see moving through the Texas coast in spring. My field guides indicate that they should be molting into their “alternate” or “breeding” plumage this month. I’m looking forward to seeing them in Texas soon.
