Ramphastos sulfuratus
It was another fun day in Costa Rica. Like yesterday it was windy in the morning and calm in the afternoon yielding better birding after lunch. Our main target bird today was the Long-tailed Manakin and I think everyone ended up with nice photos. It is definitely a challenging bird to photograph. Some of the species encountered today include Chirique Quail-Dove, White-throated Thrush, Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush, Golden-crowned Warbler, Three-striped Warbler, Rufous-capped Warbler, Keel-billed Toucan, Golden-olive Woodpecker and Pale-billed Woodpecker. Though I was thinking that I would post a photo of the manakin today I think I would rather post a photo of the Keel-billed Toucan since it was the first appearance of them on the trip and it got everyone so excited. Watching these two dance around in the avacado tree was such a pleasure. It is so much fun taking people out when they get excited about what we are seeing and today had plenty of enthusiasm.
