Procnias tricarunculatus
We just finished up another fantastic day in Costa Rica. I have to admit that I was pretty worried when we got up. The wind had been howling all night long and sounded like it was going to blow the building down when we set out. The morning was a little “slow” but around lunch time the wind died down and birding got much better. Some of the birds we saw today include Black Guan, Golden-winged Warbler, Emerald Toucanet, Golden-browed Chlorophonia, Yellow-faced Grassquit, Red-billed Pigeon, Plain Wren, Rufous-and-white Wren, Golden-crowned Warbler, Gray-crowned Yellowthroat, Slate-throated Redstart, Orange-bellied Trogon, Black-breasted Wood-Quail, and a bunch more. It was really difficult to choose a favorite bird of the day. How can you on a day when you photograph Resplendent Quetzal, Three-wattled Bellbird and Gray-throated Leaftosser. I have to say I was probably the most excited about the leaftosser, who was tossing leaves left and right as we watched. However, I think the Three-wattled Bellbird probably stole the show for the group. It was quite a thrill watching it make its ususual and very loud call from the treetops.
