Eumomota superciliosa
We had a fantastic first day of our Costa Rica trip today. Even though it was mostly a travel day we spent the late afternoon birding around the Jaco area and had an impressive (at least to me) number of birds. It was difficult to pick a highlight with species like Double-striped Thick-Knee, King Vulture, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Nutting’s Flycatcher, Rose-throated Becard, Yellow-green Vireo, White-collared Seedeater, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Black-and-white Owl, Pacific Screech-Owl, Scarlet Macaw, Stripe-headed Sparrow and many others. Everyone took a ton of photos and I am much too tired to go through them all but I did want to share something so here is a Turquoise-browed Motmot from this afternoon. Hopefully we can get more in the morning in better light. We are all definitely excited about the rest of the trip.
