Rallus obsoletus

Ridgway’s Rail was our main target bird for the first day of our California trip earlier this month. It took some patience to get a look but before the end of the day we got excellent looks and photos as this individual walked out of the vegetation and swam across the water in front of us and then disappeared back into the vegetation. It was a great way to spend New Year ’s Day.
