Trogon melanocephalus

This Black-headed Trogon was photographed while on a boat ride in northern Costa Rica near the Nicaraguan border this past October. I think that our being on a boat might have helped us approach as close as we did. We had a chance to see several of these beautiful birds and as I recall we never saw one alone, there was always at least one additional bird around and on one occasion I believe I saw four birds in a group.
