One thing that makes birding around Houston in the winter fun is the raptors that show up. We don’t get a lot of raptors during the warmer months so when birds like this American Kestrel start showing up it is fun to try to get photos of them. It also doesn’t hurt that the male kestrel is such a beauty. In addition to their beauty, their shyness and agile flight add to the challenge of photographing them making them an even more exciting photographic subject.
