Aimophila ruficeps
This Rufous-crowned Sparrow was from our west Texas trip earlier this month. We saw several of them during our visit but as one might expect from a sparrow most of them were more interested in scratching around on the ground under the brush than getting their picture taken. This one popped out for almost a minute just after sunset giving a beautiful view but very challenging lighting conditions. At the time I was pleased just to get a sharp photo but when I got home and saw the image on the computer screen I was very pleased with the colors and composition as well.
