Pluvialis squatarola

This Black-bellied Plover shot was from Bolivar Flats way back in September. We observed it for several minutes as it slowly pulled on this very long worm. The bird would slowly pull on the worm then relax a bit and then pull some more making very slow progress. It seemed obvious that this bird had a lot of experience with this type of situation and in the end patience paid off when the entire worm emerged from the sand.
