Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus
The Cactus Wren is the state bird of Arizona but this particular one was photographed in west Texas during our trip out there earlier this month. One thing I personally found interesting during this visit was that several of the Cactus Wrens that we encountered appeared to be constructing nests. At least we saw several birds carrying nesting material and visiting nests with it. I don’t know if it is normal for Cactus Wrens to breed in November but it seemed odd to me if that is indeed what is going on. From what I have read cold is more of a barrier to nesting success than heat.
