Pyrocephalus rubinus
Vermilion Flycatcher turned out to be one of the more frequently seen birds on our recent trip around Texas. This individual was down in the lower Rio Grande Valley and what made it special for me was the tree that it was on, a Mexican Olive. We had a Mexican Olive tree in our yard when I was growing up and for years we couldn’t figure out what type of tree it was. I was thrilled to get a photo of this beautiful bird next to one of the beautiful white flowers of the tree.
