Golden Tanager

Tangara arthus

One of the birds I really enjoyed from our visit to the mountains on our recent Peru trip was the Golden Tanager. What can I say, I really love yellow birds and with its rich color and bold markings what’s not to like about this lovely tanager other than that it likes to hang out in the canopy making photography a bit of a challenge. We saw this one on our way down from the cloud forest and it didn’t hang around for long so I felt fortunate to get the few shots that I did. It is definitely one that I will be watching out for on future trips.

The black cheek, square black lores, and black eye are unusual markings; the orange is almost as bright as that on a Blackburnian Warbler - nice bird
