EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM vs EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

This comparison was done at a distance of ~20’ with the lenses mounted on a solid tripod and MLU. IS was turned off for the 100-400 IS lens. Each picture is an actual pixels crop from the center of the image exactly as the jpg came out of the camera (which was set to default settings).

Hi Greg, thanks for the test. I'll keep my 100-400 for air shows because of its range, but thanks to you I have a better idea of what I'm giving up. BTW love you air show galleries.
