The Katy Prairie and Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR are great places to search for wintering sparrows, waterfowl and hawks. The Katy Prairie is more of a general area than a particular refuge or park. Birding the prairie essentially consists of driving the back roads in your car and looking for birds on fences, at creek crossings and in rice-fields. Though you are very unlikely to see an Attwater’s Greater Prairie Chicken at the refuge it is still worth a visit.
