This view shows the helipad used mainly by the command choppers called "Longhorns". I was the door gunner for MG John H. Hay of the 1st Infantry Division (Longhorn 77). It's separated from the main airstrip by a road.

from the village we had to walk acroos the air strip (short cut) to the 2nd/2n company location Feb '67 Feb '68
This was the taken where the main drag that went by Division HQ. met the airstrip. The basecamp ammo dump was off to the right and the main part of the airstrip was to the left. As far as the palm trees, it was a tropical paradise, remember?

Dave,
I never saw Lai Khe airstrip from this angle. It looks like a golf course! I always saw the airstrip from near the Bravo 2/28 site (rubber trees), or along Thunder Road when I would hitch a ride with trucks or Rome Plows heading to the village (or heading back to B Company). That view was wide open country...no palm trees! Nice picture!
