Like Jose (below), when we made that trip in August 2012, it was overcast and rainy almost every day ... and cool. Never saw a mountain even when we went to Denali Park.
That said, however, I did an inspection trip up there with FORSCOM in 1974 and got to go everywhere by chopper ... even chased a grizzly and stampeded a herd of something ... all at taxpayer expense but it was money well spent.
Great route to enjoy that beautiful area. I don´t have great memories from the area around Sitka.the weather was terrible and the ship balanced too much.V
