The Marine Mammal Center covers 600 miles of California shoreline. They rescue or treat all kinds of marine species along that stretch. When the Center gets a call regarding an animal in distress they send a team to the spot to provide medical aid or to bring the animal back to the center for treatment. This year they have a record number of animals being treated. The majority are sea lion pups who were literally starving along the coast. Warming of the ocean has displaced their food chain to further away from the coast. In some cases, with the really young ones, the pups were separated from their mothers. After receiving medical care and fattening up, the young ones are released back into the wild.
