If you look closely at the top stone, the name "Byron" can be seen. That is the mark of George Gordon Noel, also known as Lord Byron, English aristocrat, poet and rogue, who loved Greece deeply. According to Wikipedia, "Byron is regarded as one of the greatest British poets, and remains widely read and influential. He traveled widely across Europe, especially in Italy where he lived for seven years; later, Byron joined the Greek War of Independence fighting the Ottoman Empire, for which many Greeks revere him as a national hero. He died one year later at age 36 from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi in Greece. "

There is a large statue of Lord Byron in Athens.
