Mike Hansen, I was at Bu Dop last of July and August 1969. HHQ 8th Engineers 1st Cav. We rebuilt the airstrip there. We work all day and watch them drop mortars on us all night. Bout 1,000 yards, they say, from Cambodia. Sometimes we could see them leave the tubes. We’re not allowed to fire back.

I see BU Dop on this map and we had an operation on the border of Cambodia where they dropped us in front of a regiment of VC and was hit that night. I was an ENGR assigned to this operation to setup firing lanes and clear an LZ but haven't had anyone that was there for this. Not sure if we where in Cambodia and they wanted to keep it quite. That was some nasty bamboo and allot of VC that night.

Dave thanks for the photos. I was with the 6th Bn. 15th Artillery working in FDC. We were in Quan Loi and had to send some of the guys in FDC up to Loc Ninh. A battery 6/15 was positioned at the end of the airstrip, and really did a job on the enemy during the battle of Loc Ninh, and you must know about that. Thanks again for the memories.
