SGT John McCoy - Rest in Peace, Brother - 4/8/09

This is a photo John shared with me that was taken when he went home in 1968.

I was just notified today that John passed away this morning from complications stemming from cancer, probably related to Agent Orange exposure. He was a brave soldier, proud veteran, loving husband and father, and a great friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him. America has truly lost one of its best.

I didn't know Sgt John McCoy, but I went through Basic Training at Fort Riley, Camp Funston in 1961, Had what I thought were some of the finest instructors in the US Army. My prayers go out to his comrades he served with, and his family, we will might on the other side. God Bless you my brother Hooah, AATW!!!

I was floored to hear of my old friend passing. John and I were good friends in B co. I always felt we lost our innocents together at a very young age. John found me a few years back. We had E mailed and talk about ours days in nam together, and after we got home. The last time we talk, He said that He had some things to take care of. that was the last I heared from Him. It was on my bucket list to see Him once again.I will remember Him untill the day I die, Then I will see Him.

Was glad I was finally in contact with him during his last year. Just wish we could have gotten together again other than email or on the phone. May his soul rest in peace, he deserves it after Nam.

I am Mike McCoy one of John McCoy's sons. My son Steven was looking up his grandpa for school to lern more about what he did in Vietnam. He came home and told me I should check out this site. I just wanted to say thanks for all the stories of my dad and others on here. You guys are all heros and I wish I could sit around with you guys and listen to all your stories. I have alot of great memories listening to my dad talk about his experieces in the Army. I even reconize alot of names on this site because my dad talk so much about so many of you. He had nothing but respect for his brothers in arms. I know you all went through hell and wanted to say thanks to all of you for watching out for my dad. I also wanted to say I will have all my kids check out this site and the sites linked to learn more about their grandpa and his service to our country, and to learn more about the Vietnam war and those that fought and died for us in that war.
Thanks again to all of you and may your stories be heard by everyone in this great nation you served.

I was John's platoon leader in Vietnam and remember him well. We had plans to get together to share war stories one of these days. I guess I waited too long. Good bye soldier. I guess your taking point. See you at the next LZ.

'At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them'.
I'm sorry for your loss, Dave. It is hard to learn of the passing of a comrade in arms.
Be at peace with the knowledge that this man lived a noble life.
