Joe Hare - Nov. '67

This is a photo of Joe taking a quick break on a patrol in the rubber near Loc Ninh in November '67. The red clay that we dug and lived in added color to all of our clothing and gear.
"Intense" isn't a powerful enough description for his expression. The "thousand yard stare" says volumes about the cumulative stresses Joe had acquired throughout his tour as well as what we had been subjected to during Oct-Nov.

Guess I had wore out the shirt and got a new one shortly before this pic, but the pants were still in good shape. LOL Had enough red dirt in/on them to keep them together. My guess is I had been in those pants at least two weeks without shower or much hygiene, except to shave. That we were required to do daily.

Those are one intense set of eyes and the stare is haunting.

PS. Dunno what the votes do or how to see the results, but I voted for this one.

What a shot! This one says it all. I remember the "red" jungle boots and fatigues from living for weeks at a time in the same clothes, red dirt ground in. God bless you all! Welcome home, brothers, from a former grunt with your sister battalion, Alpha Co., 1/28th.
