White Helmetshrike, near Chobe River, 12 Oct 2018

Member of an endemic African family containing one genus, Prionops, the name of which
refers to the serrated wattle surrounding the eye and thus highlights a key feature of
the group. Two species occur in Botswana, both cooperative breeders.
The White Helmetshrike is a pied bird with facial disk of stiff feathers.
Cooperative breeder; helpers assist with nest construction, incubation, and chick rearing.
