Thick-knees are a family of cryptically colored waders that have long legs with thickened tibiotarsal joints
(hence, "thick-knees," although technically the tibiotarsal joint is the ankle) and no hind toe.
The eyes are noticeably large, in line with the species' nocturnal habits.
These Water Thick-knees each have an eye on something overhead -- possible predator??
