One of nine species of kingfishers in Botswana. Four of the nine are aquatic, piscivorous
species and nest in tunnels in the ground. The other five are dryland, insectivorous
species, which also nest in ground tunnels, except for the Woodland and Striped Kingfishers,
which utilize tree holes or cavities. Striped Kingfisher pairs call (sing) antiphonally.
