After 3 days visiting Nxai Pan National Park in the Kalahari Desert (note on map in northcentral Botswana), my travel mate and I flew west back to Maun.
Here, we joined up with five others, including Greg Smith, leader for Naturalist Journeys. That afternoon, our guide, Ewan Masson,
drove us in his customized Land Rover from Maun north to Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta.
Of note, the Okavango Delta is produced by seasonal flooding. The Okavango River drains summer (Jan-Feb) rains from the Angola highlands. Its surge flows south
750 miles in about a month. Flood peaks between June and August during Botswana's dry winter months, when the delta swells to 3X its permanent size,
attracting animals from miles around and creating one of Africa's greatest concentrations of wildlife.
