I learnt that my preference in photographing a subject such as the seawalk is to focus on the seawalk area as the main subject, instead of bringing in a wider view of the area. Cropping from the left to make a vertical image would create a different point of view (another alternative would be to turn my camera and create a vertical image, with possible cropping to further enhance the image).
