What a great challenge! I Googled it. The textured blue water defines the edges of the frame and outlines the positive space by mirroring the lines and angles between the two. The balance between the negative and positive space is an important part of the composition. If this had been croped more closely (as I tend to do) the bright red would upset the balance. Now all we have to do is see all of this BEFORE we click the shutter! James T.

Now this is NEGATIVE SPACE in my opinion - not to hurt anybody's feelings - there are very few NEGATIVE SPACE images on this site!
There was a discussion on this subject @ the last meeting and I think I'm beginning to understand what is negative space - there are many different opinions on this subject.
