On my way to the Sandia Peak. I have skied this peak during the winter, but never been there during the summer. |
The peak looms closer as I drive to the Tram way |
The Sandia peak that I will soon be on. |
This is the view of Albuquerque from the base of the Tram station |
Relaxing at the base of the peak. It was a beautiful warm day. |
Looking up the mountain from inside the tram car as we are about to ascend this peak of several thousand feet. |
Looking back at Albuquerque from the tramway. hmmmm, that looks like rain. |
Passing the other tram car. |
The Sandia peak as viewed from the tram car. |
Almost at the top. You can just see the upper tram station. |
Arrived at the top, and looking out towards Albuquerque. |
This day was beautiful, but at the top, it was about 20 degrees cooler then it was down bottom. |
Some people I met on the trail with their beautiful dogs. |
I had several opportunities to look back to Albuquerque as I took my hike to the Stone cabin. |
A sunny day, where the sun warms you against the cool breeze coming off the mountain |
You can just see the stone cabin on top of the cliff. It was only a hike of a few miles. |
I had been walking for almost 45 minutes when I saw this sign. even then, the sign lied. It was farther! |
this meadow is part of the protected environmental area. |
This marker is at the stone cabin, telling of the men who build it, as the civil engineers were started in the late 30's |
The second plaque talking of this stone cabin. |
I had finally made it. The wind was blowing so well, it looks like i have horns on my head. |
The inside of the stone cabin. This is 70 years old now. |
Looking back towards the tram station, and my way back down. |
The top of the cliff, with Albuquerque in the afternoon |
You know, that looks like rain clouds out there too. |
Yep, those are rain clouds coming my way ,and fast! I got caught, but it wasn't bad at all. |
Okay, longs ways to go and a short time to get there, and it's starting to rain! |
The tram returns to take us back down. |
So Long Sandia Peak. And off in that far top left corner spot is the stone cabin. |
The other tram car on it's way up! |
I drove up the other side of the mountain later, and this was my view of albequerque from there. |
The narrow stone stairway to the top of the cliff |
It was a beautiful day overall, and a lot of fun and a lot of hiking |
Me, kicking back on the top of Sandia Peak. |
I found these growing in the cracks between the rocks next to the stone staircase. |
Saturday as Wilma and I went on our adventures. This was my first time to ever see Cactus Roses |
Wilma drove because I had no clue where were were going, and she was in her element as she went trail blazing over the pathway |
Sitting on top of the pass to the Jemez Falls. This was a canyon behind us. |
Wilma claims this canyon in the name of Wilma the Woodchuck! |
No echo canyon, but you should have felt the wind! |
No Cuthbert, not that kind of wind please. |
Here we are above the Jemez Falls. The water was clear and very cold |
Uhhhhhh, No Wilma, you don't need to show me how cold it is! |
Looking down the falls area. |
Just a little closer, hey Wilma, stop pushing. |
Not a bad height to jump from, but way too many rocks |
Me, at the top of the water falls. What? you want me to take 2 steps to my right? |
Walking back, we hear a sliding noise and a rattle. We run in 2 directions, and look back to see this rattler! |
He finally got bored and decided it was time to take off again. He held us at bay for a good 10 minutes though. |
The rattler heads off for his home, satisfied that he scared the bejeebers out of the two travelers. |
The hot springs we had our picnic lunch at. |
Wilma with the bottle of wine at the hot springs where we had our picnic lunch. |
