We were waiting for the bubble to burst in the early 90s and 15 years later it still hasn't. IMHO it is not the place to live that it once was, traffic is now a nightmare; it now takes around an hour to make trips which used to take me less than 10 mins. Still, a lot of people enjoy living there! For me it would be a big improvement if at some time in the future they completed ti; for the last 15 yrs it has been one big building site.

Big Brother Abu Dhabi (which does have a lot of oil) is lagging behind but has 3 trillion US$ to spend on development and has also just purchased the Chrysler Building in New York, NY

That is what I read in this weeks U.S.News Penny. This would get way to political if I were to go into the details of the story. If you are interested just pick up the June 16 issue. -COAmature

Dubai - I'd love to visit but I wouldn't want to live there -
And they're growing too fast for their own good - is that right, McBit?

Your maths is correct, that's about right. :)

Dubai is very impressive however the traffic nowadays is a nightmare and the temp today is about 43C (109f) with relative humidity of 98%.

My math conversion may be way off, but isn't that still at least 1/3 the price of gas in the US and it's even probably way less than the price in Europe or Japan? I have seen Dubai on the "'Today" show and other programs as a tourist destination - it looked very nice! :-) CJ

Debi is right, Dubai never actually had very much oil. The rulers invest heavily in commerce and tourism in order to build on whatever wealth they had from their oil revenues. :)

Energy in Dubai is getting more expensive; the whole time I was in Dubai from 91 to 2000 fuel was just over US$1/ imp gal now it is about US$1.5/ imp gal.

Thanks aam

Tell em to stop all this building work & drill for more oil to bring the prices down:-)
