Jonas, enter this in the CSLR high-key challenge - there's lots of controversy about what's high-key vs high contrast but this fits in my opinion! :-) CJ

He he, the host posted an off-topic entry (according to Angio). That's a first :)

I really like this one, Jonas.

Glad to hear your still good friends, that's very important for the kids. I needed a password for the linky Jonas.

And Rod. Check what the missus put up with earlier!http://www.pbase.com/designboy/image/35439178

;)

Well... Me and the missus separated in january... (But it's ok, we're friends and good parents still.) =)

As for the splash I just dropped the cup slightly sideways from approximatley 25 cm (10 inches) height and a millisecond later pressed the trigger. I've never tried something like this before so I must say I was lucky to get a useful shot this fast.
Rod 06-Jun-2008 20:58
I found looking at the set up very interesting & you're lucky your missus puts up wiv it:-) How did you get the splash to go up like that? And how did you knock the cup over? Nicely done Jonas.

Doug you got a point about the coffe leaving the frame. On the other hand you got a feeling of the coffe going high in the air as is. Hmm. I'll take it in consideration.

Haha! I did it in a hurry. So I din't even spell the title right! Thanks CJ...

=)

Charlie I did all the setup and shooting and and cleanup posting of the image in an hour. (I was invited to dinner at a friend so I had a time to meet.) In the best of worlds I would have taken more shots. But I did it i my kitchen (with wooden floor) so I didn't want to mess things up to much and the time was up. This is the third attempt. (The spash of the others wasn't as good).

I'll try to post a image of the setup later this evening. The reflective surface is a white polycarbonate high glossy board. The reflection is possible with a mirror as well but I would not like to drop a cup of espresso from 25 cm height on to a mirror...

Very nicely done anad you're an artistttttt.
Charlie Beck06-Jun-2008 18:30
I'm guessing a lot of work went into setting this up, including a lot of clean up work. I would like to ask what reflective surface you used, and how you kept a clean white background behind the spill.

Nice "shot" Jonas, (there I go again with the bad puns!) but maybe not "God" espresso, but very good to be sure! ;-D CJ

Well done Jonas, it compelled me to run downstairs to the cafe and get a shot myself :-)

An espresso is just what we need to wake up the galleries. Nice setup and nice work with the reflection. The only thing I would change is to neatly crop off the top of the splash to keep it from leaving the frame. If you could keep it natural looking that is. -COAmature
