Yup. The indignity is compounded by the risk that I might not be able to get back up. -tv

Undignified Tommy!!! squatting is downright dangerous if yer joints lock up like mine:-)

Thanks everybody and good analysis Rod but you didn't go far enough. The shot also fails because of the high point of view that places the head and instrument bell squarely among the band. What should be the central element, his trumpet, is lost among the melophones and tubas, its bell dwarfed by theirs. This is an example of a shot that "might have been" if only the photographer had had the presence of mind to squat - but that seemed soooo undignified. -tv

I'm not sure if he is just really into his music or if he is posing for you but either way he is drawing attention to himself. I think he stands out from the rest of the band even with a large DOF. -COAmature

Even though this bloke is looking good for a portrait type picy it doesn't work for me that way. He seems more than balanced out by the almost in focus band in the background which makes me incorporate him into the general picy & not focus on him. I think a narrow DOF would have worked better a. I liked the drum picy better too but I do prefer picys of girls than I do blokes.

I like how the shadows point to the lone trumpet:) - angioman

what happened to the drum? This soloist is more emotive (for sure) but there was something special about the drum.
