Outstanding, Brent. Boy, Seattle has so many good things to photograph, it makes me want to visit.

I didn't see the "original," but I do like this version. Nice contrast between the two colors, nice level of detail in the glass panes, and a great angle of view.

I do like the abstract look to this building, even though it is very controversial in Seattle! It's more like a sculpture than a building. You wouldn't even need the blue building in the composition as the yellow/gold one against the sky would be enough for me! :-) CJ

The shades of gold on blue look great, Brent. My eyes are a bit distracted by the metal grid with the panes on it. -Gerald

Looks good Brent. There's a lot of depth to it. -COAmature

Thanks Penny :-)
Hey Tommy, forgot to mention you picked a great month to bring the family out to Seattle. July weather usually beautiful here.

very nice.. I only glanced at your original but I think I like the balance of this composition better.

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone :-) I took it all in (including B & W with color accents Debi) and came up with this using another image from the same session. I think I like this better, but may go back and shoot again if a flock of blue and yellow parrots happens along, etc ;-) I liked your idea of going more abstract Mary Anne, but don't think I had the right angles for that- maybe later.

How about cropping off the offending part of the photo? The metallic luster of the right half is nice enough on its own and is actually more pleasingly abstract without those (solar panel?) thingies on the left.

Just pretend that Debi never said that:-)

What about a B & W with colour accents :D = Debi
Rod 26-Apr-2008 06:41
Yes a tricky bugger to shoot Brent that's for sure but if this place is not too far from your normal travels I'm sure you will get a lighting that's just right. When is the operative question:-) I was just going to ask if you've tried a B&W conversion of this but that won't work for this challenge a:-)

This structure seems unforgiving with angles reflecting the sun from all directions. So, I'm bringing the family to see it in person in July. BTW I don't expect to better this thoughtful effort. At least some of the metallic colors are showing pleasingly well. -tv

Thanks Rod mate :-) The brightness in that one area is a result of mirrored reflection of the setting sun that gave the metal the nice color. I used a circular polarizer to mellow it some as well as bring out more color in the metal, but even with exposure backed all the way down in raw it is still blown. If I have a chance, I'll try this one again in different weather or sun position- don't know if I'll pull the color out of the metal then though.

Very nice look to the metal, well done Brent. Just one thing to look out for is when a sort of blown highlight has a bit of size to it, it can look a bit nasty like the one just above the blue shaded metal. It just detracts a bit from the really nice look of the rest of the metal.
