Thanks all for the comments. I was with a friend & had to leave the zoo soon. The elephants were our last stop & they were facing the other way over in a corner. This shot 'presented' itself, I snapped & we were on our way.

Great framing, Tom. I don't think I could have guessed.. from the thumbnail, it looked like Mt St Helens erupting. Now it looks like an unusual rock formation.. but an elephant.. naaa. Wonderful capture. -tv

Wow, I always thought getting sat on by an elephant would be be unpleasant because of the crushing weight. Seeing this makes me think just touching all that would be worse! Very nice and rare alternate perspective of a fairly often photographed creature Tom.

It looks like an electron microscope image of some insect or maybe some pollen... I like it. :-)

Whoa! What a TAIL! Gee! I like it! It's so interesting to see the contours. I've never been this close to an elephant's bottom before... Always was afraid of a package... *wink* ~Lydia

Thanks Penny Street, I've made some adjustments. Maybe now it's better suited to the topic.

not sure about high contrast - will defer that question to someone else. BUT - this is an interesting perspective of this mammoth creature - nice work.
