Thanks again, everyone. I like the suggestions about the post and will work on a compromise in Photoshop.

I think what I like about this is that both the front and the back of the kitty are missing - that - and the square crop (which is why I think the hat stand works for the composition).

Agreed...it's the post that's a distraction. And you can do some Photoshopping even if the cat's not in the mood!

That's a cool hat, Troy. I kinda like the mystery of not seeing the face. I would like Rod's suggestion of making the post invisible. Cool shot. ~Lydia

It's strange I like the dark square as it seems to add a nice compositional look to the picy. I might have darkened it more so the post blends in wiv the square. The hat will then seem to be floating giving the picy a manly tension:-)

Thanks Debi and Penny. Try putting a hat on this cat? No way!
BTW I did take several shots that portray exactly what Jano suggested but lighting, etc was not too good. Will take more later - if the cats (and I) are in the mood.

Anything with a cat and I am sold _ and this is a lovely pic too top it all - Debi

Maybe try putting the hat ON the cat and see what he does!!!

Thanks for the comments, good suggestions. Need more spontaneous, eh? hummm - how to make a cat more spontaneous, guess he is too well trained!
ctfchallenge29-Feb-2008 17:07
Troy, I agree with Jano. The concept of this photo is great, but I think you have to make it look more spontaneous, and the stand under the hat detracts from that.

I think you may have chose the right one Troy. I thought seeing the tail would be just perfect but for some reason this shot does sit better on the eye.
ctfchallenge29-Feb-2008 12:05
Troy - have you thought about setting this shot up differently, like putting something in the hat and have the cat's head buried in the hat? I love the texture of this hat and I would play with it some more as this has wonderful potential... I find the hat thingy the hat is sitting on distracting and it gives the shot a "set up" feeling. Other than that, it is sharp and crisp, color is great, and as I said, a good start. jano

Thanks Rod and TV. I put a view with the tail in Pending. Which do you like better? ~Troy

Great work Troy the cats head being under the hat is a master stroke mate. Fantastic picy. I would have liked to see its tail in the picy too. Goodun mate.

What's under there.. catnip? Nice setup for an almost Dr Seuss takeoff. -tv
