Thanks again CJ, Julie, and Abstract. No, Abstract, the ISO 400 wasn't an accident. I had been shooting at ISO 100 and 1/500 sec, but I was getting more blur than I wanted. I could have tried ISO 200 and 1/1000, but skipped that stop because I wanted to be sure the wings would be frozen. - J.V.

i doubt you can get panning effect with such a fast shutter speed like 1/2000 sec. btw did you mistakenly bumped up the iso to 400 in this sunny lighting condition?
this is an excellent capture, especially the sparkle in bird's eye. -Abstract

Thanks Bruce, tv, and Oved. Yes, the 70-300 does have a switch for panning IS. I'm not sure, but I think all Canon IS lenses have this. -J.V.

Looks great! Birds in flight are not easy to catch freezing in time. Does the 70-300 have a switch mode for panning IS? /Oved

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it. Yes Brent, I did pan along with the bird. Looking at the background, I don't think the panning effected the shot, other than I don't think I could have gotten it without panning. - J.V.

Crazy! It almost looks like a cartoon character whipping along. I know your shutter speed was fast, but did you pan along with the bird to get this? All three are great posts!
