Only jpg. RAW is strictly 4x3.
Canon DSLR Challenge15-Jan-2008 22:48
so which do you get - RAW or JPG in wide? I'd have him set to 2:3 ratio, which thrills me. Right now I have to edit his 3:4 befores to match my 2:3 afters! ~ Lonnit

Agreed Lonnit. The G9 is soft and lacking in contrast. But whadya going to do? Since I shot in the wide format, the raw + jpg option is precluded. -- Bruce

Too bad the head on the right got mixed in with the background; it makes it hard to see it. Timing was good. :) The G9 definitely needs help in the contrast. Did you notice how much less saturation, sharpness, and contrast there is between RAW and JPG? I was surprised b.c. I'm used to th RAW files being softer and less intense than JPGs. ~ Lonnit

Nice catch :) All the in-camera versions I've seen of sepia seem to me to be very oversaturated though. You know your PP Very Well but for anyone who doesn't.. I'd like this better if layer was duplicated, top layer set to "luminosity", and bottom layer then tweaked with saturation tool to "hue + 15" and "saturation: -70". That's sepia to me.. but as always: a matter of taste. Mine may well be totally weird.

Thanks guys. This was just a lucky grabshot. I WISH I wasn't configured for dong a landscape pic. But you take what you can get when the opportunity presents itself. -- Bruce

I really like this one Bruce, the sepia seems a great choice here. I'm not sure people believe these wide format G9 shots- I've submitted some too ;-)

Beautiful composition and toning. Great timing capturing the fun and frolic. I can't even imagine this is without presented PP. We have gotten so used to pp, that people are forgetting that camera is a complete tool :) Good show Bruce!

Good capture, Bruce. I also like the sepia. I usually shoot everything in color and add the sepia or whatever in PP. You've inspired me to try it in camera.

It almost looks like the front feet left the ground too. I haven't tried the 16:9 yet. Even though most of my pictures will be shown on a HDTV via the apple tv media center I got this Christmas, I'm always cropping something out so that it isn't 16:9 anyway ... so 4:3 serves me well. I wish photoshop had a crop setting that would allow it to maintain a 16:9 ratio as you moved it about the image. John

What fun, Bruce! I like the sepia for this, it adds a slightly surreal look to the image. ~Sharon

I like the action shot. Not sure about the aspect ratio in this case though. -COAmature

Hah! You don't wait; it's totally random. You just get lucky. The Raynox is pretty good. A tad soft, but what the heck, right? -- Bruce
ctfchallenge04-Jan-2008 12:42
How long do you wait for a shot like this? Animals provide such good subjects that I expect it must be frustrating waiting for them to perform. I rarely have the chance. It really does seem cinematic in scope. Based on your results, I just got the Raynox .7 for my wife.. maybe I'll slip it on my lens when she isn't looking. -tv

The 16:9 aspect ratio is an in-camera option. Now all I need is a 16:9 monitor! I intended to sneak up on these guys and grab a few "peaceful grazing horses" shots with the WA adapter. But as you can see, they started feeling a little frisky. -- Bruce

16.9....16.9....Wot, so this is a DVD picy isit:-)
mcbit04-Jan-2008 08:36
I fink the G9 has a 16:9 shooting mode so that could be it! Eh Bruce ;) -mcbit

Nicely done Bwuce but is this a crop or do you have a strange shape sensor?:-)
ctfchallenge04-Jan-2008 04:50
Cool shot, but I think it would have looked better without the WA converter.

Good action 'fun' shot and in sepia too. :)

Fun shot Bruce and nice tones! I'd like to try sepia with my XT - I wonder if it will work. CJ
