Rule broken: Never spook your subjects just before you take their portraits
Why it works: Sometimes you just HAVE to break the rules to see what happens :)
Note: No creature harmed during this portrait session
Seriously:
Rules broken: saturated color, correct color balance and Correct color fidelity (colors match those in the real world)
Why it works: Human feet do not have an orange glow :) and this water is not actually so blue. Its more of a pale green. But by breaking the rules and giving the feet an orange glow against the super saturated blue of the hot-tub (subject is doing a hand-stand) it pops, and looks interesting. The saturation boost of incorrect fidelity works with each other to create a nice contrast, there by practically going unnoticed, that it is broken.
There is also an argument of center comp vs rules of third in here, which one works and which one doesn't, but I am out of time and don't want to start another chapter with Lonnit again ;-) ;-) may be some other time ;-) I am headed for a New Years party :)
When the rules are broken and they work beautifully, one does not actually notice that they are broken, until they are pointed out. (IMHO) I think thats a lesson for all of us during this challenge. Nice challenge Lonnit and thanks for a good workout!
