Rule Broken: No bright spots or spots of light... and the white balance perhaps?
Why broken: I wanted to capture the mood of the campfire, in addition to getting a portrait... it's a self portrait because no one else would sit still long enough...

I think it works because this is the only one out of the 10 or so that I shot where it actually looks like the campfire is lighting up my face. I realize it was the fire that is lighting up my face, but I mean if you look at the picture you would think that not only is the fire right next to me, but that it is casting its light onto my face. Plus, If you notice, you can see the side of my head in the upper left corner. I don't know if this makes sense...but I at least think this should be put in exhibition (didn't realize it had to be taken within the dates provided, sorry about putting it in the wrong gallery... guess I can't compete unless I get a camera for christmas!).

This will be eligible (for exhibition gallery, due to the date) once you've explained why you think it works. I think TV is right about darkening the rest. I don't think you go to true black here and the increased contrast would help with the impact. ~ Lonnit

Ah, but I didn't have to hold still for 6 seconds...the camera was pointed at the fire for a few seconds, then flipped around at my face for a few seconds... I have a few more of these where the flames envelope my head, but I like the lighting on my face in this one... And as for the date...lets say thats another rule I broke since I don't have a camera for a while (my sd550 is broken! Hope I get a G9 for christmas!!).

Wild!@! nice eyes ;) - when was this shot taken? If it's not shot during the challenge period, then it should be placed in Exhibition... unless of course that was one of the rules you were intending on breaking ;) - Kelly

I find the OTT intensity of the burnt out fire to be quite effective. I think the rest could be darkened to amplify the impact. It should fit the topic well: so we will see... tick, tick, tick... waiting for L. -tv
