jano, I liked that you got the pencil angle close to the black square's angle so that it wouldn't disturb the lines/flow of the shot. John

Oh... it was some time back when I was experimenting with the macro lens... and I'm not even sure it was a picy I entered in a challenge... someone suggested a higher ISO will allow a greater DOF, aperture, or something. Maybe I didn't learn anything now that I think about it... or didn't apply it right. I always seem to struggle with trying to figure out the correlation between TV, AV, and ISO and how they all work together to achieve the picy right the first time vs. using a lot of PS. But no, no discussion here on this particular image. jano

From wot you said below Jano.....""but without suggestions from this forum it probably would have not worked.."" So I was wondering wot forum you got suggestions from.

Thanks Penny, McBit, Debi and Rod for commenting. As far as the angle, I'm going to suggest it is a "thinking" angle vs. an actual writing angle. :) Rod, why would I discuss the making of this image in the forums? or do you mean here? Basically it is pencil, paper, and shoot. :) ? Lighting is a table lamp above. jano

Very nicely done Jano. I didn't see any discussions in the forum about the making this picy Jano.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Only a minor quibble , the angle of the pencil seems a bit odd. - Debi

Wonderful Jano! Dof and exposure both spot on, and an interesting subject to boot :) -mcbit

This is much better than my scrabble board! I love the pencil.

Thanks Bruce, tv, Sueanne, and Kelly for commenting :) This is exactly how I wanted the pic to turn out, but without suggestions from this forum it probably would have not worked... Used a little higher ISO as others have advised to get this right on..... still experimenting with this beast :) jano

Excellent shot and amazingly shallow DOF! - Kelly
ctfchallenge16-Dec-2007 23:04
Sensitive balance between the detail of the intruding pencil tip and black & white crossword pattern make this much more than the usual shallow dof shot. -tv

That is great DOF and sharpest pencil I ever did see.

Splendid use of the shallow DOF. -- Bruce
