Thanks Tom:-) You should see the prices of the L lensdown here, almost double. Maybe I will have to buy online for the first time.
Guest 19-Nov-2007 14:22
Rod, thanks for switching this back to colour, love that blue, brings out the darkness of the water more.
And oh yes (for the Missus), 40D + L lens = working properly (careful, those lenses are addictive, but sweet)
Rod 19-Nov-2007 06:28
Tom next time you mention the 40D make sure you add it must have an L lens onit for it to work properly. The missus doesn't believe me but when I show her you saying it she will believe it:-)
Rod 19-Nov-2007 06:22
Ok girls here's the nice one back.................bugger wot Tommy ses:-)

although I'm usually a sucker for choosing a B/W shot over a colour one (might be all those years I spent in the darkroom breathing fixer fumes!...), I think I like the original better, having seen both. on it's own though, this is still a very dramatic shot. - b.c.

Hey Rod, you won't get that noise at 800 ISO, when you get your new 40D.

(Oops, better delete that Rod, case the Mrs'is sees it)
Rod 18-Nov-2007 10:28
Thanks Debi:-) I didn't add any grain Debi this must be the high Iso noise.
ctfchallenge18-Nov-2007 09:27
Hey the blue one was better. The lights were clearer without the grain. Even the shadows were better I think. Debi

Thanks Lee:-)

looks good rod
Rod 18-Nov-2007 01:19
OK Tommy I've done it, now if I lose the girls vote wiv this manly looking B&W it will be all your fault:-)
Rod 18-Nov-2007 00:51
Thanks Kelly & Tommy:-) I think you may be being too literal Tommy as in some shots the colour is a distraction & if there's enough contrast & other elements suited then B&W can be a big improvement. A lot of city & people shots do seem to suit B&W maybe that's wot I was on about, most of me picys are just pretty landscape type stuff but I do hope to get into more B&W when I retire & give photography more attention. Did you try a B&W conversion on this Tommy? Maybe put it in Pending so I can have a look, I thought there may be too much high Iso noise for B&W. I will give it try.

Rod - this version I like so much more! Very well done! - Kelly

Maybe it's my monitor... Maybe I'm color phobic esp when its so monochromatic. Early when I joined the challenge you reminded me how much better bw could be in many situations and now you seem to be turning back to color even when it doesn't add much. I think this image looks great in bw.. the pier really pops out. Try it. -tv
Rod 17-Nov-2007 13:41
I didn't put the blue in, this is the colour as they came out of the camera. I've just done a levels adjustment & sharpen so blame Canon:-) Anyhow me & Carole really like it:-)
ctfchallenge17-Nov-2007 13:33
This lacks the impact of your "Distance Effect" pier shot, Rod. It was much more carefully thought out and executed.. Here is too much blue for you. -tv
Rod 17-Nov-2007 08:45
Thanks Carole:-)
ctfchallenge17-Nov-2007 07:46
Nice one Rod and I don't think it looks girly at all. ;-) The lights, pier and reflection all make great leading lines. CJ
Rod 17-Nov-2007 06:46
Thanks Sue Anne, B & Tom:-) It was very dark when I first got down there Sue Anne & it felt very mild, I was only in me tee shirt & shorts but as the light started to come into the clouds I felt a bit chilly. You're lucky Tom as I went down to the point to get a girly sunrise picy but there was no colour in the clouds at all. It even started to rain lightly which made me feel more manly out in the elements taking picys:-)
Guest 17-Nov-2007 05:00
Rod, sorry for the 'girly' word, but this is lovely. The blue, reflection & the starlight effect are a great match here. Oh yeah, the line works as well.
ctfchallenge17-Nov-2007 01:19
great shot, the colour and the lighting are both beautiful, and the receding lines of the pier and the light lead your eye nicely into the distance - b.c.
sue anne17-Nov-2007 00:42
Very nice night shot of the pier. Looks abit cold ....
Rod 16-Nov-2007 23:41
Thanks John, Doug & JV:-) I would like to take credit for the white balance JV but all I did was to zoom in on the light reflections & locked the exposure then zoomed out & took the picy. The camera is set on auto WB so it may have set itself to the colour of the lights. I hope you think I'm still clever:-)
J.V. 16-Nov-2007 22:49
I think my favorite thing about this is how you white-balanced off the lights, which gave you a crazy-blue sky. Very nice shot.
Guest 16-Nov-2007 22:36
Another fantastic pier shot. Perfect time for the shot Rod. The lighting is perfect. -COAmature
