fantastic !

Thanks Kelly & b.c. These are the building's fire stairs which were opened for an annual weekend show of structures made entirely of canned goods to be donated to charity. -tv

This is wonderful tv! I keep looking for one of Escher's bugs to come rolling his way up the stairs. Is there also an elevator in this building? LOL - Kelly

this is a really great shot and a very strong entry for this theme, I think. the composition, colour and contrast are all perfect. and like John says, I too am envious of the seemingly endless supply of photo ops in NYC but more importantly your great eye! I really like this one (and it's not even one of your b/w shots!) - b.c.

Thanks for making me feel better. 20 shots ... I should have known better. I just get these impressions like you walked off the elevator went over the stairwell and said to yourself, "hey that looks interesting". Then you bend down zoom for composition, check the exposure and focus and shoot (maybe bracket) and then you are on the next one. In the editing room you look and see you have included a little too much of where you are standing and you simply crop it out. Of course then you cuss the 150K limit as you try to keep the quality high. Now I know better. But still you didn't stand on that crosswalk for 20 minutes or get everybody to trip a trigger so that their foot was in the air on some of those earlier submittals. John

Thanks Oved & John. I tried a number of crops from about 20 shots and finally settled on this as the least static and most balanced throughout the frame. -tv

It appears that NYC has an unlimited supply of photo ops. But what I really think is that you have a good seeing eye that knows what will look spectacular. I especially like the way you cropped this at the bottom to make sure our eyes wouldn't wander at the bottom of the photo and placing more emphasis on the upper posts (diagonal from us) to create a dotted line of posts from top to bottom. It is only after seeing all of this do you notice how artsy the architect was to have the sides of the steps bright white. Too cool. Take a look at how much more emphasis is placed on the diagonal posts if you cropped out more of the bottom to just leave a triangle instead of a diamond at the bottom. I like it the way it is though. John

Strong entry, made all of lines! The contrast is affected by the live red vs gray. Nice! /Oved

Thanks Tom, Abs, & RK.
Bruce, thanks, but I can't take credit for the color scheme. (Besides, I don't know how.) The stairwell painters did it. -tv

very cool, love the contrast & intense depth. (I don't like heights, so could not easily take a shot like this)
works a treat!

Selective coloring usually doesn't appeal to me, but it works very, very well here. Great job. -- Bruce

Thanks all. Rod is right - no desat. These are painted colors. The building houses showrooms for furniture and fixtures. The architect took his sense of style even into the firestairs, normally a drab, utilitarian place. -tv

Oh me gawd talk about pick a leading line, where do I start:-) At first I thought this was a partial desat but that would have took ages to do. This has a great effect on the eyes great work Tommy.

Like I said, Tommy finds the most interesting structures. My favorite is this one. -COAmature
