Thanks for the great comments, everyone. I'll reshoot this with a deeper DOF and see how it goes. I have an hour left ;)

very nice. the portrait orientation emphasizes the stack in this nice tight shot, and in spite of the OOF side and not strictly filling corner to corner it's well balanced and cluttered - b.c.

Very classy cluttered look Techo - well done :) jano

Nicely done, I really like the exposure, the frame is full, the shallow DOF has kept all the detail to right side of the picture, which seems to keep the eyes attention away from the OOF areas...

Looks a lot like the stack near my bed. Hubby always complains he will trip over them ( We have a floor level bed). Nice shot. I am staying out of the out/in topic discussion. :) - Debi

Rod, it was on Gerry McBride's "War Paint" picy in Exhibition. Personally, I'd prefer the whole thing in focus as I find the brighter OOF left side distracting - there seems to be such a sharp contrast between what is in and out of focus. I'm not sure the words would be distracting, maybe just rotating the ones with writing would work Techo. I like this though and it certainly looks cluttered! CJ

Frankly, my head is torn on the OOF issue here. I might have to take another long look when my I'm not so tired. For now, I think it's a question of balance, and this is just on the edge. If the sharply focused corners were shifted more to the right, the blurred area would be more visually assertive and flat. As it is, the sharpness pops out a bit. What works very well is the choice of B&W for this subject. It transforms the shot from a dull mess, I suspect, into an artsy mess. -tv

Hi folks :)

I'd have no trouble reshooting this one. If need be. Reason I used the shallow DOF was to blur the words on spines and let the lines do the talking.

Where Carole? Kiki got pinged on her handbag shot, I think I remember Tommy saying everything has to be in focus to reinforce a flattish viewpoint. But that was then & this is now:-)

Thanks for the Rangefinder link - I just subscribed! Nice messy stack and Tom has commented positively on another OOF shot so I'm sure this will be on-topic for him too. CJ

Excellent as always.

This is a great Pending shot Techo as our Tommy doesn't like out of focus unflat picys for this topic................I don't either:-)hehe
