Have to admit sueanne, this is one of the better entries I've seen from you. Really excellent.

Thank you aam1234
and thank you TV, even it went against my first thoughts to keep the sky, Mary Anne convinced me to crop, crop, crop.......

This is super, sueanne.

This version is absolutely outstanding for the topic according that elusive, difficult to describe vision I have. So everyone listen up. The qualities of the image are obvious as "clutter" and disbursed subject matter that cover the entire frame without any single point of focus. The telephoto compression flattens it very well, especially with well-controlled and deep focus (dof). And yet what makes it work so well as an image are the spectrum of shapes and colors, not so varied to take away the clutter, but having enough colors and variety and intricate detail to be a feast for the eyes. Cutting out the sky generated remarkable esthetic transformation. Excellent work. -tv

Thanks Maurice and Rod. :)

Fits the topic really well, a busy shot, I like the impression of being trapped in a forest of masts!
Rod 17-Oct-2007 08:12
That's much better Sue Anne, well done.

Sue Anne, this picture is right on. It is funny as I don't see it as cluttered or that busy since I have hung around the dock forever. I see nice neat orderly rows of slips of sailboats, although the 3rd and 4th rows of slips are not very distinguishable. Maybe having to wheel a cart full of groceries and looking up to see how far I have left to go, has calibrated my eye to the clutter. John

Sue Anne, don't forget that we're going for "clutter" here, not tall masts. You can use your original version for the rest of the world, but right here we're in a cluttered frame of mind. ;-)

This is very good Sue Anne, but I agree it would fit the topic better if more of the sky were cropped out. As it is, I'm herewith ruling it passes the topic test. However, Pls try the crop just for fun and see how the mood changes. I frequently try several different crops just to see the effect. -tv

Thank you Mary Anne - I did try cropping off all the sky but it made the masts shorter and not give that tallness I wanted to convey.
Thank you J.V. - I cropped abit off the sky and didn't even think of the horizontal halfness.

I think you should take a little off the top or bottom to move the "horizon" away from center, and draw more attention to the boats or the masts. Great looking picture though. Nice and abstract.

Wow, all those masts!! If you're really going for a "busy" look, you could crop off the sky, which gives the photo an almost claustrophobic effect. Well seen, Sue Anne.
