New Leaf

Home

As strange as it might seem, the veins in the leaf are not raised, but sunken. The lighting was from almost directly perpendicular to the leaf's surface and the shadows are cast on the back of the leaf, showing thru to the front via natural translucence and creating this optical illusion. I cloned out the shadow of the stem, completing the illusion.

Here's that B&W conversion. Remember, this is a negative. Its all about light, my friend (no offense, aam)

I have the same problem, Rod. I think its because my brain expects the veins to be darker if they are depressed. I converted this to B&W and inverted it, so the veins ARE dark and it looks "right", i.e. veins depressed. Funny, huh? Cheers, -mikey

They used to say a picy never lies but this leaf tells some real whoppers. You would bet money that the veins are raised. I will come back to this tonight & see how many beers it takes to make the veins recessed:-)

Thanks for the comments, CJ, Rod, Doug & Tom. I appreciate you looking and glad you like the colors and texture in the shot. This is a Nasturtium leaf from a plant we have growing in our house. As well as a beautiful leaf they also have lovely flowers. Here's a link to more info on this plant:

Thanks again for your kind words. Cheers, -mikey

Nice, the vibrant green & deep shadows help show off Mother Nature at her best.
