See-Saw *

I was taken with the bright and vivid playground equipment but was particularly careful not to get children very prominent as there seems to be a furor at the movement about photographing children in public places.

Canon EOS 30D
1/60s f/5.0 at 13.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

It is a difficult subject, taking pictures of kids. On one hand I don't see the problem but on the other I would be more than curious as to why people are taking pictures of my kids. Your see-saw subject would have been more dominant had is been equiped with a kid or two. -COAmature

It's a wonder you didn't get arrested Andy:-) I think the kids that are in the shot makes it work really well as our eye goes through the shot. Well done mate.

You are right Tom. I have taken photos openly in the public mall and parents have had no problem with it. I usually talk to them and show the style of image I am taking. On the other hand I was taking images of my young grand daughter playing net ball in a public park and was asked in no uncertain terms to stop. Most of the time I feel there is an over-reaction and misinformation. I try and go about my photography and be the least confrontational as I can.

Playground equipment tends to be made in those vivid primary colors (that adults love), too bad the lack of children. Taking pics of kids can be tricky, which is unfortunate since kids & the camera were made for each other IMO. Seems parents here in Oakland, CA are OK with it if you talk with them & ask nicely. But a large public place is a little different. Seems we need to be over-sensitive in this area. There are lots of views & good articles about handling this.
